The concept and emblem known as the Eye of Horus, also known as the wedjat eye or udjat eye, is found in ancient Egyptian religion and stands for protection, well-being, and healing. It comes from the fabled battle between the god Horus and his nemesis Set, in which Set tore out or shattered one or both of Horus's eyes. With the help of another deity, such as Thoth, the eye was later repaired or given back to Horus. The eye was then given to Horus's late father Osiris, and thanks to its reviving power, Osiris was sustained in the afterlife. Thus, all offerings made to gods during temple rituals and burial offerings were associated with the Eye of Horus.
